A successful Patagonia trip is less about choosing one famous river and more about matching the itinerary to your dates, fishing style and travel party. PTO plans programs directly from Chubut and adjusts the combination of areas to each group.
Getting to Chubut
Most international travelers connect through Buenos Aires and continue to Esquel (EQS) or Bariloche (BRC). Esquel is the closest airport to the Trevelin operation; Bariloche can be useful for broader combinations. PTO coordinates the local transfers included in the confirmed itinerary.
Choose the right fishing areas
- Trevelin, Esquel and Los Alerces: a diverse base for rivers, lakes and spring creeks.
- Río Pico: remote lakes, rivers and a distinct landscape that works well as an extension.
- Cholila and northern Los Alerces: the Carrileufú system, lakes and varied outdoor experiences.
Lodges and program design
The lodge should support the itinerary, not dictate it. PTO can combine comfortable lodging, guided fishing and activities for companions. Before booking, discuss the number of anglers, experience level, preferred techniques, physical considerations, dietary needs and whether anyone in the group does not fish.
What to bring
Pack layered clothing, a waterproof shell, sun protection and polarized glasses. Wading equipment and tackle recommendations depend on the selected waters and time of year; request the current packing list before traveling instead of relying on a generic list.
Before confirming
Review current entry requirements, travel insurance, fishing regulations and domestic flights. These details can change. PTO provides the operational information for the confirmed program and recommends appropriate travel protection.
